Many theater people don't know what one is. And even those who do don't always agree what one actually does. That's what we found out when we asked theater people around the country, "What is a dramaturg, and what role does the position play in theater?" The diversity of their responses surprised us--but also illustrates the many roles this person can play in creating a successful production.
